Brothers"

I met these two outside the only refilling station in Inhassoro, Mozambique. At first they stood back quiet, shy watching my camera with a kind of careful curiosity. They had never seen one before. When I walked over and showed them the images, their hesitation turned instantly into wonder. Laughter, questions, excitement, like a door opening. Before leaving, I gave them a book about Kruger. They turned its pages slowly, eyes wide, discovering animals and worlds they had never imagined. Then it was time to go. We said goodbye. I drove away carrying the feeling that brotherhood is not just who you are born with, but who you share a moment of wonder with.
